First off, thank you to Sarah for letting me come on over to her blog and have a good old ramble about make-up! My name is Katy and you can find me most days over on my blog Pretty Education talking about anything and everything, plus a heck of a lot of nail polish! Today for the lovely readers of Writing Rambling, I decided to fore-go shopping in town for a free shop of my own stash!
Whenever I do my make-up, the first thing I reach for is my make-up bag. But the other day, starring into it, things just felt a bit same old same old. My brain somehow never connects the fact that all I have to do to swap up my make-up, is open a drawer and pull out something new. But when you’re rushing about because you have about 10 minutes to put your face on, it just seem an impossible task. So I decided to take the time to have a good delve into my collection and pull out some new piece to trade into my bag (btw, this lovely one is from Primark!)
Staying in the bag were some products that I know I still want daily. This includes a favourite Rimmel foundation in the Lasting Finish 25HR Nude formula, plus a Botanics BB Cream. Concealer wise, I kept my much loved Collection Lasting Perfection, plus the Rimmel Wake Me Up and Miss Sporty Perfect Stay 10HR, which I switch between for under my eyes. Finally, a staple is the Rimmel Stay Matte Powder.
I also kept my two fav eye bases, which are two shades of Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze for shimmer and Creamy Beige for matte looks. I also kept my current mascaras which are the Maybelline Lash Sensational, Barry M Showgirl (magpie for that packaging!) and my all-time favourite, Revlon Grow Luscious, which I am furiously tracking down online as they discontinued it (why?)
For my foundation swap up, I traded in my Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous, because I love this and can't get hold of it in the UK, plus the pesky lid keeps making a break for it in my make-up bag. I also traded out my Rimmel Wake Me Up, because I just haven't been reaching for it. I swapped them for a new foundation to me, which is the Sleek Bare Skin foundation, which I've only tested once, but it gave such a natural coverage and the Maybelline Dream Flawless Nude, because I was obsessed with this when it came out as I couldn't quite figure how such a lightweight formula gave amazing coverage - it truly hurt my brain!
I love switching up my blush, so out of the bag came the Essence Silky Touch in Baby Doll, my only MAC blush in Melba (my signature blush) and a very old but can't get anymore Natural Collection blush in Peach Melba. You can get Peach Melba but they made it matte now and this has a gorgeous shimmer in and it is probably wrong to keep it but it is just do pretty!!! I'm really into ash and cool toned shades at the mo, so I popped in NYC's West Side Wine (this is a really beauty!), Revolution Love and an oldie, but goody in Rimmel's Santa Rose, which I wore religiously for months!
I'm not a big bronzer wearer, but I decided to trade out my old faith NYC Sunny Bronzer, for an Essence one which I haven't used yet called Sunkissed Beauty. I switched up my highlighter and stored away my favourite Benefit highlight, High Beam and a gorgeous Seventeen Shimmer Brick in Pink Bronze. I opted for an old favourite in the Rimmel Wake Me Up Shimmer Touch in Shimmering Sand (a little goes a long way!) and a rather neglected Revolution highlighter in Peach Lights, which I very much underestimated how beautiful this is!
I don't keep any big eye palettes in my make-up bag, but as I just got a load of new quads and trios, I decided to say goodbye for a while to my ELF Palette in Natural Eyes, as I just wasn't feeling the shades anymore. I swapped in a NYC palette in Union Square which has one of the most gorgeous gold brown shades I've ever seen, a NYC quad in South Street Seaport and a Miss Sporty Quad in Smoky Rose, as like everyone at the moment, I'm loving the whole rose toned eyeshadow looks. You can see more of these swatched over on my blog here and here
The final thing I added to my bag was some lip products. My most used lipsticks sit in an acrylic holder above my make-up bag, so I decided to throw some lip glosses into my bag to go with them. An all-time favourite is the Tanya Burr lipgloss in Aurora, which coming from a nude lover, is a gorgeous everyday pink shade. I also threw in another Tanya gloss in Sugar and Spice, plus a Barry M Lip Boss in Thinking Outside Of The Box, for throwing on top of all my nude lipsticks. The final item was something I got this year and loved it from the moment I first used it, which is a Maybelline Color Drama Lip Crayon in Nude Perfection. I would recommend everyone to get this as it is a perfect nude.
And there we have it. My make-up bag has been given a new lease of life, with a Spring/Summer twist and I am so excited to see what looks I come up with next time I do my make-up! Only problem now is the thing is that full, I can't see what's in it! I hope I have given you some inspiration to give your make-up bag a shake up and give your neglected make-up collection a good bit of love!Be sure to check out Katy on all her social media linked below!
