Mortiswood Guest Post!
Another day another Book Tour, this time I have the pleasure of hosting the very lovely (and talented!) Gina Dickerson and her book 'Mortiswood Tales: Kaelia Awakening'. Let's see what Gina has to say to her younger self shall we?!
Reading and Writing advice to my childhood self…
Dear me…well, you,
You live for words, love them so very much. You cannot go shopping with your mum unless you stop off at the book shop several doors down and come out with at least one book. There is nothing wrong with that hunger for stories. It’s perfectly normal.
That librarian in the library who always raises her eyebrow and asks your mum, “Is she old enough to read this?” or “She only had ten books out last week”, ignore her…don’t let her think that some words, some undiscovered worlds, are not for you. They are. They were written to be read. To be devoured. Become lost in them. Then take a deep breath when, horror of horrors, the book is read and you have to leave the world you’ve just discovered…you’ll go on to discover another…and another…and another!
As for those stories you scribble in those little notebooks, keep scribbling. Don’t worry if the tales are dark, twisted, fantastical, and sometimes a little scary it is what you write. Don’t worry if others think you are strange or a little weird for loving reading and writing so very much. Read what you want to read, what you enjoy and remember to write with the same enjoyment. Just please, little you, stop writing about taking your dog to the park, or about a dog that loses its tail (how many tails can a dog have?), or a dog that goes shopping…we both know you love dogs!
And finally, I know some books are just so awesome that it is a pain to stop reading to do normal things, like get ready for school or even walk to school, just remember to look up occasionally from the book in hand. That lamppost is just waiting to jump out and hit you on the head, you teenager, you!
Now, like most of these I am also holding a giveaway. But this time I am being generous as there are two, one is for a paperback copy (signed!) of Mortiswood Kaelia Awakening and the other is for a Kindle (mobi) copy of both Mortiswood Kaelia Awakening and Kaelia Falling! ENTER NOW!
