A Recipe for Change

Celebrity chefs raise their whisks
to help #STOPbowelcancer!
Did you know that someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer every 15 minutes in the UK and it is the second biggest killer after Breast Cancer??
Bowel cancer screening is a vital step in detecting and treating cancer and this year marks the ten year anniversary since its introduction. Bowel Cancer UK are using this anniversary to help raise awareness and as part of this have created ‘Be a Star, Bake a Cake’. For this special initiative, they have teamed up with a host of celebrity chefs to create a range of cake recipes you can use at bake sales to raise awareness and funds to support their amazing work

Someone is diagnosed with Bowel Cancer every 15 minutes and it is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK. Help us #STOPbowelcancer by sending a recipe card which includes wonderful cake recipes by celebrity chefs and ambassadors helping the Be a Star, Bake a Cake initiative to stop bowel cancer and spread awareness. Discover the full range of recipe cards at:
Recipes have been shared from celebrity chefs including: The Hairy Bikers, Rick Stein, Brian Turner, Tom Aikens, Mark Greenaway, Gino D’Acampo and Gennaro Contaldo and there are a couple of delicious and healthy recipes included from rugby star James Haskell.
As part of the 'Be a Star, Bake a Cake' initiative, Bowel Cancer UK have also partnered with online greeting card company thortful to create beautifully illustrated, fun and humorous greeting cards which feature some of these recipes.

There are eight bespoke designs to choose from, created by multi award winning designer Soula Zavacopoulos of The London Studio. Each of Soula’s original designs is paired with a delicious recipe from a celebrity chef which is printed inside the card, making these beautiful and original cards a great way to send a friend a birthday wish, or simply say hello and share a recipe with a friend to brighten their day, while also contributing to a brilliant cause, as thortful are donating 30p from every card sold to Bowel Cancer UK to help stop cancer.
Recipes include Gennaro’s Contaldo’s delectable Chocolate Orange Ring Cake and Brian Turner’s Banana and Toffee Pudding. Mark Greenaway has created sinful sticky toffee pudding cupcakes with salted caramel cream cheese frosting and England rugby star James Haskell has donated two recipes including Sesame Seed and Pecan Flapjacks.
If you've been reading my blog for a while, or maybe if you've caught up with a few of my posts, one theme which keeps recurring is that I love cake, like, absolutely 110% definitely worth living for LOVE! Life is simply too short to live life without cake and this is even more prevalent to people living with bowel cancer. I'm sure there's someone in your life who has been touched by bowel cancer. My uncle has suffered with it but thankfully made a good recovery. It's a horrible disease and one which needs eradicating!! (Of course I do wish cancer in general is eradicated, it's awful and takes far too many people away from us all too soon!!! =( )

Any excuse to get baking and raise money for an amazing charity is time well spent in my book! Cancer is a horrible disease and Bowel Cancer especially. It wrecks lives, destroys families and tears loved ones apart. I cannot imagine going through something as awful as this so if I can help in even a small way I will. You can guarantee that at some-point during this month I will have baked a cake for change.

Here is a poster highlighting the facts of Bowel Cancer, we all need to be aware!

I hope I've helped you learn a little more about the awful disease that is Bowel Cancer. It really is absolutely disgraceful that in 2016 so many people are still dying from something which is so preventable. Make yourself aware, learn the facts and check out the super cute range of recipe cards being sold by thortful and help to raise money so we can stop cancer sooner. #BowelCancerAwarenessMonth

Thanks for reading, please let me know if you buy any of these cards and bake a cake for change.
