Jumping On The #CoffeeScrub Trend With Optiat*

Thursday, 28 July 2016

Everyone knows how crazy the trend is right now for coffee scrubs....everywhere you look you seem to be bombarded with the latest product! I myself have previously tried out and reviewed Bean Burst's Grapefruit Coffee Scrub which I loved and it worked wonders for my skin so you can bet I was going to trial Optiat's coffee scrubs too!

Ok so who are Optiat exactly? Well, Optiat stands for 'One Person's Trash Is Another's Treasure' as they actually repurpose brewed coffee from a roaster in London and turn it into their coffee body scrubs! They aim to create sustainable and natural beauty products that minimise the impact humans have on the environment. That's why, for example, their body scrubs were recently included in Fauna & Flora's 'Good Scrub Guide' as they are completely microbead-free. Something which we should all be aware of because the beads which are in our everyday exfoliators can actually damage marine wildlife. Nobody wants to hurt Nemo and friends! =(

I have the Lemongrass and Peppermint scrub and I absolutely love it! It is said to stimulate and energise - perfect for your morning shower! The smell definitely wakes me, whenever I use it! Each scrub is infused with natural essential oils which leave your skin touchably soft and without the need to moisturiser after which is amazing! My skin has never been as soft.

The other scents available are Lemon and Black Pepper which is cleansing and invigorating and Clove and Cinnamon which is soothing and calming.

Did you know there is around 500,000 tons of coffee waste in the UK alone, every single year!? That's a hell of a lot of lattes and cappuccinos people! This is why Optiat are determined to recycle and reuse as much as possible to help save the environment. Smelling good AND doing good?! That's got to be a win-win, right?!

OK, so WHY coffee scrubs as opposed to my regular exfoliator Sarah? Well for starters, because of the small grains it easily removes the surface layer of dead skin cells and reveals fresh, soft and glowing skin underneath. The caffeine stimulates blood circulation which is effective against cellulite, stretch marks, dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, acne and so much more! It is packed full of antioxidants, a recent scientific paper suggested that used coffee was found to have as high, if not higher, levels of antioxidants in compared to freshly-ground coffee! Amazing ay!?

What I love about this scrub, is that unlike the Bean Burst one I tried, you can actually SEE the essential oil IN the seems to sit above the scrub and then once you put a hand it to get some out, be mixed into it and make it easier to scrub on?? Does that make any sense? I love being able to actually see the ingredients in it and of course, because of the peppermint it smells INCREDIBLE! It definitely wakes me up that's for sure!!

There are so many coffee scrubs on the market that it can be hard to make a decision about which one to try and I am grateful I've had the chance to try two so I can at least make an informed choice! But if you're still struggling to decide let me help you out.....

  • Bean Burst comes in a cardboard package which can easily get wet in the shower whereas Optiat comes in a handy tin which although great for storage and in shower use, it can be a bit tricky to open with wet hands!
  • With Optiat, you can visually SEE the essential oils inside the tin, with Bean Burst it is grainier, with only the scent of grapefruit throughout the coffee scrub itself.
  • Bean Burst don't use recycled coffee grounds, whereas Optiat use them exclusively.
  • They both claim to leave skin soft and supple, but with Bean Burst I had to use moisturiser afterwards whereas with Optiat, I didn't! My skin was incredibly soft afterwards and smelt so good to boot!
  • Bean Burst retails at £15 for 200g and Optiat's tins are £9.95 for 200g. So you get the same amount, just for a different price range...!
  • Optiat have free international delivery on orders over £15 and Bean Burst now offer free EU shipping when you spend over £30 and only £1.99 for all orders under £30 on their website. They also offer a gift pack of all 3 of their scrubs for £28.
I hope that has helped you out a little as to which scrub will be best for you! Although I'm sure either one will help your skin out with whatever complaint you suffer from!! I know both ones have done wonders for my skin and left it feeling smooth and supple after use.

Optiat's tins retail at £9.95 each and they now offer sample packs retailing at only £1 which is the perfect way to try them out if you're new to the world of coffee scrubs! I would 100% recommend it as this has to be, hands down the best scrub I have ever used!! I am so grateful to Optiat for giving me the chance to try it out! Sometimes being a blogger is the best thing ever!!

Have you used a coffee scrub before? Which ones have you tried?? Do you have any tips for me?? I would love to know! Leave me a comment!!

Love Sarah
