Iconic Film Moments With Warner Bros!*

Thursday, 20 October 2016

On 5th September 2016 Warner Bros UK. launched the Iconic Moments Collection, a beautifully matching packaged set of 22 standout titles celebrating the breadth of their catalogue.

Each of the releases has fantastic new artwork built around one of the most memorable lines from the film.
I thought it would be fun to share some of my favourite moments and quotes from five films from this collection!! Let me know if you have any too! I'd love to chat films with you!

The Goonies:

Andy: I can’t tell… if it’s an “A sharp” or if it’s a “B flat”!
Mikey: Heh, if you hit the wrong note, we’ll all “B flat!”
Mikey: Don't you realize? The next time you see sky, it'll be over another town. The next time you take a test, it'll be in some other school. Our parents, they want the best of stuff for us. But right now, they got to do what's right for them. Because it's their time. Their time! Up there! Down here, it's our time. It's our time down here. That's all over the second we ride up Troy's bucket.
Mikey: [to One-Eyed Willie] Hi Willie. Oh, I'm Mike Walsh. You've been expecting me, haven't you? Well I made it. I beat you. I got here in one piece... so far.
[lifts up Willie's patch]
Mikey: So... that's why they call you One-Eyed Willie... One-Eyed Willie.
[takes a breath from his breathalizer]
Mikey: We had a long comment, huh, Willie? You know something, Willie? You're the first Goonie.
[the rest of the Goonies show up]
Mikey: Yo. Hi guys. How's it going? This is Willie... One-Eyed Willie. Say hi, Willie. Those are my friends... the Goonies.
Mikey: How long have you guys been standing there?
Brandon Walsh: Long enough, Mikey. Long enough.

Now - shock horror - I haven't actually seen The Goonies.....I know I know.....but I have no excuse now!! But I have been told that it's one I should put on my list as it's so iconic! Maybe once I've seen it I'll have more quotes!

The Wizard of Oz:

Dorothy: has just arrived in Oz, looking around and awed at the beauty and splendor] Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas any more.
Dorothy: [after a pause] We must be over the rainbow!
[a bubble appears in the sky and gets closer and closer. It finally lands, then turns into Glinda the Good Witch wearing a spectacular white dress and crown, holding a wand]
Dorothy: [to Toto] Now I... I know we're not in Kansas!

Wizard of Oz: A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others.

Scarecrow: I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy: How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Cowardly Lion: Put 'em up, put 'em up! Which one of you first? I'll fight you both together if you want. I'll fight you with one paw tied behind my back. I'll fight you standing on one foot. I'll fight you with my eyes closed... ohh, pullin' an axe on me, eh? Sneaking up on me, eh? Why, I'll... Ruff!

Now I absolutely LOVE The Wizard Of's just such an iconic film from my childhood, everything about it is brilliantly done and was, I suppose, quite scary at the time it came out (1939, debuting on TV for the first time in 1956) with the monkeys flying around and dog-napping poor Toto! Everyone knows and loves the songs 'We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Oz,  'Follow the yellow brick road" and 'The witch is dead, which old witch? The wicked witch, the wicked witch is dead". It is truly a family favourite and has now been brought back to life again thanks to new technology.

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory:

Mr Wonka: " Don't forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he wanted"
Charlie Bucket: " What happened?"
Mr Wonka: " He lived happily ever after"

Grandpa Joe: " I've heard tell that what you imagine sometimes comes true"

Willy Wonka: “Of course they're real people. They're Oompa-Loompas...Imported direct from Loompaland...And oh what a terrible country it is! Nothing but thick jungles infested by the most dangerous beasts in the world - hornswogglers and snozzwangers and those terrible wicked whangdoodles. A whangdoodle would eat ten Oompa-Loompas for breakfast and come galloping back for a second helping.”

Willy Wonka: There's no earthly way of knowing/Which direction they are going... There's no knowing where they're rowing...
Mr. Salt: [weakly echoing] Rowing...
Willy Wonka: Or which way the river's flowing... Is it raining, is it snowing?/Is a hurricane a-blowing?
[sharp gasp]
Willy Wonka: Not a speck of light is showing/So the danger must be growing... Are the fires of Hell a-glowing?/Is the grisly Reaper mowing?/Yes! The danger must be growing/'Cause the rowers keep on rowing/
[practically screaming]
Willy Wonka: And they're certainly not showing/Any sign that they are slowing!
[lets out a high-pitched, almost unearthly scream]

Willy Wonka: So much time and so little to do. Wait a minute. Strike that. Reverse it. Thank you.
Willy Wonka: [singing] If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it. Anything you want to, do it; want to change the world... there's nothing to it.
Willy Wonka: [singing] There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination. Living there, you'll be free if you truly wish to be.

Veruca Salt: [singing] I want the world. I want the whole world. I want to lock it all up in my pocket. It's my bar of chocolate. Give it to me now.

Oompa Loompas: Oompa Loompa doo-pa-dee do / I've got another puzzle for you / Oompa Loompa doo-pa-dee dee / If you are wise you'll listen to me / Gum chewing's fine when it's once in a while / It stops you from smoking and brightens your smile / But it's repulsive, revolting, and wrong / chewing and chewing all day long / The way that a cow does / Oompa Loompa doo-pa-dee dah / Given good manners, you will go far / You will live in happiness, too/Like the Oompa Loompa doo-pa-dee doo.

This is another film which I absolutely adore. I will forever love Gene Wilder as the slightly crazy chocolate factory owner who instills respect for your elders and integrity into young Charlie Bucket. This whole film is full of amazing quotes and songs by the Oompa Loompas, who to me, are full of wisdom! I remember doing this as a play at school and I have great memories of rehearsing my lines, listening to the songs and really getting into the spirit of my character. Children everywhere loved this family friendly movie and decades later it has been brought to life again, thanks to Warner Brothers.

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves:

Sheriff of Nottingham: Just a minute. Robin Hood steals money from my pocket, forcing me to hurt the public, and they love him for it?
[Scribe nods]
Sheriff of Nottingham: That's it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas.

Marian: How is it, that a once-arrogant young nobleman has found contentment, living rough with the salt of the earth?
Robin Hood: I've seen knights in armor panic at the first hint of battle. And I've seen the lowliest, unarmed squire pull a spear from his own body, to defend a dying horse. Nobility is not a birthright. It's defined by one's actions.

Marian: Robin, do something for me.
Robin of Locksley: What?
Marian: Take a bath.

Friar Tuck: Let us open a bottle and do our best to save each other’s souls.
Azeem: Alas, I am not permitted.
Friar Tuck: Fine then, you talk, I’ll drink.

Now, anyone who has seen this film knows just how good Kevin Costner looks in a pair of tights.......#swoon! Everything about this film just speaks volumes about good battling evil and the folklore tale that is Robin Hood stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. Whether you believe that or not remains to be seen but you can't beat a bit of romance, a battle of good and evil and a song that debuted at number one and stayed there for a record breaking 16 weeks! Yes! "Everything I Do I Do It For You" still holds the record for the longest continuous stay at number one!! In the context of the film it really makes you tear up! (well me anyway!) Definitely one to watch this Autumn if you haven't already!!

Gone With The Wind:

Scarlett: Rhett, Rhett... Rhett, if you go, where shall I go? What shall I do?
Rhett Butler: Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

Rhett Butler: Take a good look my dear. It's an historic moment you can tell your grandchildren about - how you watched the Old South fall one night.
Scarlett O'Hara: Tara! Home. I'll go home. And I'll think of some way to get him back. After all, tomorrow is another day.

Scarlett: As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again. No, nor any of my folk. If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill. As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again.
Scarlett: Great balls of fire. Don't bother me anymore, and don't call me sugar.

Based on the 1936 novel by Margaret Mitchell, Gone With The Wind focuses on the life of petulant southern belle Scarlett O'Hara (Vivian Leigh). Starting with her idyllic life on a sprawling plantation, the film traces her survival though the tragic history of the South during the Civil War and Reconstruction and her tangled love affairs with Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard) and Rhett Butler (Clark Gable).  The line " Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" is possibly one films most iconic lines, along with "Play it again, Sam" from Casablanca (although that quote isn't strictly correct!).

I hope you've enjoyed my little journey through these films from the new Iconic Collection from Warner Brothers. Please let me know if any of these are your favorites! Do you have any quotes which you remember from them!? Please let me know below!

Love, Sarah
