'Meet The Blogger' Series Interview 41 Travel Special!

Wednesday, 12 October 2016

I have decided to start a new series here on Sunshine Sarahxo after meeting so many lovely bloggers on Twitter I would like to get to know them. So I am going to try to recruit as many as I can as I think everyone deserves a chance to be in the spotlight. =)

Q1: Hello there, great to have you here on Sunshine Sarahxo! Please could you introduce yourself and tell us a little bit about your Blog:

Hello! My name is Simone and together with my partner Dan we are the travel bloggers and photographers behind The Aussie Flashpacker. The Aussie Flashpacker is our personal travel blog where we promote the very best in luxury and adventure travel and share all our adventures and travels around the world. It’s grown a lot over the past year and we can’t believe there’s tens of thousands of people following along on our adventures out there! Travel is our passion and we really aim to inspire others to get out and see all the beauty in the world and to prove that it is possible for anyone to travel as long as you are willing to make a few sacrifices along the way!

Q2: At what point did you decide to make a Travel Blog and share it with the world??

I decided to start The Aussie Flashpacker when I returned from a six month trip around America and South America and was in the process of applying for a UK visa and saving money to move to England. I’d met Dan in Brazil during the trip and moved to England a few months later where we’ve been living the past few years. I used to blog as a way to share my travel adventures overseas and also share travel tips and advice that I’d learnt along the way!

Q3: How would you describe your writing style? Has it changed over time at all?

My writing style has changed a lot since I first began The Aussie Flashpacker. I cringe when I think back to my first few blog posts which have since been updated or deleted. I now put a huge amount of effort into each post and we’ve really gotten serious about the blog in the past 12 months. I was lucky that it was something Dan was interested in doing as well as he is a excellent photographer and all the beautiful photos which you see on the website are his handiwork! Our style of travel has also changed over the last few years, we’ve evolved from backpackers to flashpackers. Both of us feel that we have certainly had our fair share of backpacking and now prefer the finer things such as nice hotels (especially with pools), a nice dinner and glass of wine of an evening and a more slow paced, relaxing style of travel. We’ve documented all our travels from the past few years on the blog and it is certainly possible to see the development of both my writing style and also our change in travel style.

Q4: Was there anyone in particular who inspired you? Which Travel Bloggers do you emulate?

I do follow a lot of other travel bloggers purely because I live and breathe travel! Whilst we’re not on a trip
I am always planning our next holiday and wanderlusting after exotic destinations. Following the adventures of other travel bloggers helps with this as I feel like I can live vicariously through their adventures whilst planning our next holiday! One of my favourite travel bloggers in World of Wanderlust. Brooke is a fellow Aussie who has truly “made it big” in the travel blogging world and I love following her adventures as she flits from destination to destination! I know it hasn’t come easy for though and it is truly evident that she has put in a HUGE amount of work to get where she is now! Another blog that both of us follow is Y Travel Blog. Caz and Craig are two Aussies who travel extensively in Australia and also abroad with their two girls. They truly show that it is possible to “have it all” and that you don’t have to stop travelling when you have a family and that you can have a house and settle down whilst also being able to travel and work in an industry and career that you are truly passionate about!

Q5: Do you have anything in the pipeline on the Blog which you are particularly excited about?!

Yes! We certainly do. On Monday we are leaving England to fly to Portugal where we head off on 100 days of travel around Europe! We are starting in Portugal and flying out from Greece and visiting Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Montengro & Turkey in between! We’ve teamed up with some incredible brands, hotels & tour companies in a lot of destinations and are looking forward to sharing all our travel moments on the blog and on our social media sites!

Q6: Can you give us an idea of what it's really like to be travel blogger?? A bit of what goes on behind the scenes if you like.

I love being a travel blogger! It is a lot of work writing quality posts and keeping social media updated but I love it! It’s really not something you can do if you don’t enjoy it, it will either show in your work or you will burn out. Behind the scenes there is a lot of work including keeping up to date with emails, writing regular blog posts, sorting photos, editing photos, sharing posts on social media and keeping up to date on Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest & Facebook! We’re lead very busy lives but I love it!

Q7: Of all of the places you have visited which has been the best?

That is a seriously tough question and I’ll have to narrow it down to three for now I think! We’ve both been lucky enough to travel quite extensively across six continents and every trip we’ve taken has been amazing in its own way. My favourite city in the world is without doubt Rome and I’m looking forward to heading back for my fourth visit in just over a months time where we’ll be spending a week there. Another favourite would be Grindelwald in Switzerland where we spent our Anniversary last November. Grindelwald is a picture perfect village in the Swiss Alps and we were lucky enough to arrive just in time for the first snow of the season. It was truly a magical trip and being an Aussie I absolutely love snow and the entire Jungfrau region was absolute paradise! We also ticked off the experience of relaxing in a outdoor hot tub which a blizzard happened around us! Lucky last would be the experience of hiking the Inca Trail in Peru to Machu Picchu. The four day hike was one of the toughest things I’ve ever done but such an incredible life changing experience and another huge tick off the bucket list!

Q8: Has your Blog helped you in other areas of life?!

It has! I’ve been contacted by a number of brands and companies and have been recently doing some freelance travel writing which I have been loving! I am currently sharing all my travel tips, stories and advice from my time in South America on LATAM Airline’s new website, Next Stop Latin America! I’m excited to working alongside some travel writers that I really admire!

Q9: What is it that makes your Luxury Travel Blog so fabulous?!

The Aussie Flashpacker is so fabulous because we aim to showcase the very best in luxury travel in each destination we visit. Our main goal for the blog is to inspire others to travel and see the world and we hope that through our blog posts and photos we do just that!

Q10: Finally, can you recommend anything to us today!? Do you have any travel tips you could share with us?!??

Our biggest advice would be if you want to travel, just do it! Too many people we know often tell us “how lucky we are” to be able to travel regularly and see the world. We make a lot of sacrifices to be able to travel and for us it is completely worth it. If you want something enough we promise you that you can do it! We’re always sharing travel tips and advice for specific destinations on the blog so head over and have a look, or feel free to send us an email if there’s something you’d like us to write about!
