Guest Post #9 - Being Thankful

Tuesday, 8 November 2016

Back in June I wrote a post about being thankful and it's had such an amazing reaction, I have decided to ask my beautiful blogger friends to contribute their own 'Thankful' post to carry on the theme. Today I have Nisha Kotecha from 'Good News Shared' with her take on what she is thankful for:

Every night before I go to sleep I note down a few things about my day, including things I am grateful for. Last night I wrote:

I am grateful for…

My husband, who made us bean burgers because he knows how much I love them.

I am also grateful to him for watching The Green Mile with me, despite having already seen it (the last few films we’ve watched haven’t been new for him, but they have been for me because somehow I missed a lot of amazing films over the years!)

Having an incredibly supportive friend in my life. Chatting with her today made me feel really happy.

My mother-in-law, who happily agreed to help me with yet another favour!

Taking the time to regularly think about and write down what I am grateful for is relatively new for me. I started it after a difficult personal time and I am so glad I did. It has helped me see and appreciate the good things I have in my life more and has stopped me from looking enviously from the outside at other people’s lives.

Every night when I think about what I am grateful for I try to make it about that particular day. If it was about life in general I think I’d be up all night!

A couple of the wider things I am grateful for at the moment include:

I am living in Berlin at the moment and am able to do so much thanks to technology, including call my family and friends, work, watch TV / films, read the news, find and *meet* awesome bloggers like Sarah, keep track of my finances, and so much more!

Being able to live in different places

My husband and I have enjoyed living and working in Berlin over the last few months, and last year we were lucky to do the same in Las Palmas. I am so grateful for these opportunities as it has meant I have been able to experience incredible things with my husband, I’ve been able to learn more about myself and what I like / want from life, and I’ve grown by putting myself in situations outside my comfort zone.

I have found that taking some time to think about the good things from my day – big or small – helps me appreciate what I have and make the most of each day.

Nisha Kotecha started Good News Shared in 2014 to give people something uplifting to read and to highlight the amazing work charities do. She has created The Moments Journal to help people remember the good things from their day – launching December 2016. You can find her on Twitter and Instagram @NishaKotecha
