Anyone For Brunch? Testing Out CAU's New Brunch Menu*.

Sunday, 11 June 2017

Brunch to me, is one of the most underrated meals of the day. Too late for breakfast but too early for lunch? Brunch! It's the perfect in-between and makes for the perfect lazy weekend. There are a lack of decent brunch spots in Harrogate, so when CAU invited me down to try out their new menu I couldn't refuse!

I brought along my friend Janet to come help me sample their menu and upon arriving we were offered a drink which was very welcome after being out in the rain! Their menu is small but perfectly formed, with a range of dishes including Sweet Potato Pancakes with Pork and Eggs, and a CAU Breakfast. We were spoilt for choice and took ages deciding! Eventually I opted for their Avocado Eggs and Janet the Sweet Potato Pancakes which I was secretly really happy about because it meant I would get to taste them too!

I couldn't say no to their Mimosa cocktail which was absolutely delicious and the perfect accompaniment to my amazing avocado eggs, which by the way were the very best baked avocados I have ever had. Like, ever, because prior to this, I had never had a baked one before, but this, this one was divine. And not filling because no bread! Winning! The chimichurri had enough spice in it to lend itself beautifully to the soft avocado and the perfectly cooked eggs which oozed yolk as soon as my fork went through them. I may have to replace my usual avocado toast with this because I didn't feel full afterwards but was nicely satiated, ready for another course!

The Sweet Potato Pancakes were amazing! We decided they were much better than normal pancakes, the potatoes adding a wonderful hit of sweetness to the dish. The pork was perfectly cooked, as were the eggs. For me, this was too much of a lunch dish but I would happily swap the meat for a slice of bacon or two! American style - especially with the maple syrup!

After our delicious first course, we were offered more drinks and a chance to look at their Lunch and Evening menus which were both reasonably priced and the evening one extensive. Upon reading both we settled on desserts, Churros and Dul de Leche Pancakes both of which were absolutely delicious. The pancakes were wonderfully crispy and filled with a delightful sauce, accompanied with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The Churros were served with a toffee sauce and cinnamon; were beautifully crisp outside and soft on the inside which made for the most delightful combination. These were definitely some of the best I have ever had and will be coming back for more!

The staff were very friendly, as was John the manager, very willing to allow us to order anything from any menu and topping us up with drinks. It felt a bit odd being the only two people in the restaurant but at the same time was appreciated. The decor in the restaurant worked perfectly with the Argentinian theming, bringing the colours of Buenos Aires to life.

"When we started CAU our vision was to create a restaurant that would fit perfectly in the heart of Palermo, Buenos Aires. If we could replicate that spirit, vitality passion and sense of fun we knew CAU would become a home from home for our diners." (Source)

As you can probably tell, I had a wonderful time at CAU catching up with my friend Janet and sampling their new brunch menu! It is brilliant finding somewhere to go for brunch which doesn't cost the Earth or isn't a car ride away.I urge you to pop down to CAU and enjoy their brunch for yourself!

Let me know what you think! Are you a big brunch fan like me?!

Thanks for reading.

Love, Sarah
