A Mother's Choice by Kate Hewitt

My arms ache with the need to reach and hold my precious child, and then to never let go. But I can’t. I know I can’t.’

Heather is devastated. There’s no way she can keep her baby. She can barely pay the bills as it is. But when she meets Grace, a wealthy, single career woman, who wants a baby more than anything, Heather believes she has found the perfect adoptive mother.

As Grace and Heather’s lives become entwined, they are tested to breaking point, though neither can deny the other’s love for the child. But just when they think they are learning how to live with each other, they receive devastating news that turns their fragile world upside down.

Will either mother know what is the right thing to do for the child they both love?

An absolutely gripping, emotional drama with a tear-jerking twist. If you love Jodi Picoult, Kelly Rimmer or Diane Chamberlain, this will warm your heart, make you cry, and stay with you forever.

My Review:

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish and I loved how well Heather and Grace's

relationship bloomed right up until the end. They may not have been the best of friends
and Grace definitely did not want anything more to do with Heather once she had legally
adopted her baby. There was a part in this book where I thought it would end and I was
happy with the ending but then we got a whole other section of the story which was quite
sad but again this was written so well that you really felt for both characters and thankfully
Kate (the author) didn't give us a predictable ending, but one which suited both characters
and their families. I finished this book in about 2 days due to long car journeys, I just got
totally lost in the story, absorbed by both characters and their respective families.

Kate Hewitt writes so well, it's so easy to read her stories and be captivated by them,

losing yourself in the storylines. I found 'A Mother's Goodbye' easy to read but also quite hard,
emotionally because of the adoption storyline so if you are easily upset by these subjects then
I perhaps wouldn't suggest reading it, but if you're upto it then I would highly suggest it.
Kate has done everything so well it is easy to see how much research has gone into it, as it
covers the highly emotionally charged subject of adoption. Through Heather we get to see
both sides of adoption from her discovering she's pregnant right through to her handing
over her baby to Grace. Heather's need to be involved in her baby's life goes above and
beyond what is normal, even in an open adoption. It's a tricky subject but one which is done
really well in this book. I really enjoyed reading this one and am looking forward to another
book from Kate now!
