Dating Later In Life | Dating Sites For Senior Daters | The Dating Rules You Need To Know!

Sunday, 15 July 2018

I have talked many times on this blog recently about love, life, dating and relationships and everything in between.  It can seem daunting to begin with, trying to navigate the minefield which is love, finding your special partner with whom to share your life and its many challenges.

Whilst some people are lucky enough to find their love quite early on in life and stay with them for many years, what about when that love ends or your marriage breaks down? Are you ready to tackle senior dating, to put yourself out there again and take all the risks you once used to freely and easily? It can be daunting but so worth it if you find that special someone to see you through your twilight years.

I feel lucky to be surrounded by people who have found love from an early age and are still together 40+ years on. My grandparents were married for 60+ years which is just amazing! My parents' best friends were lucky enough to find love again which just makes me feel so confident about my life as a lonely singleton!

There's a whole world dedicated to older dating online nowadays, helping those over 40 find love once again - or indeed, for the first time. I think it's wonderful; why should you be alone when your love life breaks down, or you're suddenly alone after however many years? It's lovely to have the chance once again to find someone special to share your twilight years and perhaps give yourself a new lease of life, someone to go on holidays with and create some amazing memories together.

I know dating whatever your age can be scary, but why should you miss out just because you're a bit older than the people you think should be using online dating? I'm yet to actually give online dating a go myself, but I guess I'm just a romantic at heart, just in love with love - and I love helping spread the word about the many differing ways in which you can find it!

Life is too short to give up on love, to throw it all away and not bother trying to find that special someone - someone to share your worries and your joys, and even someone who'll take the bins out in the snow for you! Even if you are older when you eventually find your someone, it shouldn't detract from what is an incredibly special time.

Yes dating can be a minefield, especially if you choose to go online to find love, but if you're careful and follow the basic rules and protect your safety, I reckon you'll be absolutely fine!

Online Dating Rules

Ask a friend to help you set up a dating profile - they know you best after all and can help describe your personality and the qualities you're looking for in a partner if you're struggling.

Never reveal where you live - you can give the basics like which town you're near, but never ever reveal your actual address. Likewise, never give out credit card or bank details online - unfortunately you have to be very wary these days as there are conmen out there, but don't let this put you off!

Always tell someone you trust when you're planning to meet your online friend in person for the first time - ideally this would be after a few weeks/months of talking online/on the phone. Meet them in a public place for a coffee first before suggesting anything more.

Make plans with friends if you do meet up with someone from online - perhaps ask them to ring you halfway through the date or set up a 'get me out of here' message with them whereby they'll ring you so you can escape with no pressure!

Don't feel under pressure to stay with your date if you're uncomfortable, or just aren't enjoying yourself - just explain that you're not happy and they should allow you to leave with no pressure to meet again.

Never give money to someone you've met online no matter how convincing their story is - this could be a scam to get money out of you.

These rules aren't hard and fast, just more common sense on how to look after yourself when delving into the world of online dating. Please don't be put off by them, by all means put yourself out there and find love again, just be aware that some people aren't who they say they are online! I'm sure you're well aware of internet safety, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded so you can be safe online.

I wish you the very best of luck with your search for love whatever your age! Please do let me know your love stories; I would love to read them!

Love, Sarah
