Dining At MOJOS| Harrogate's Newest Dive Bar | Serving Up The Best Food, The Best Service.....And Of Course, Incredible Music! |

Wednesday, 4 July 2018

Ever heard of MOJOs?? Nope me neither until it came to Harrogate a few months ago, based on the New York dive bars it serves up incredible food served by friendly staff all whilst playing the best music around! What more could you ask for?! Well how about being treated to a tasting menu by head chef Julie (who came all the way from Liverpool especially for us!) and sampling their very best cocktails!

Last Tuesday evening I met my gorgeous blogger babe Victoria at MOJOs and settled down for dinner along with the wonderful PRs Emily and Sharon - I have to admit this is the first time I have ever had dinner with the PR company for the place I'm reviewing but it was really lovely and of course we learnt more about MOJOs from the very people who work for them!

So the original MOJO bar opened in 1996 - New York style dive chic, fabulous liquor, incredible food, the most knowledgeable staff and the best Rock n Roll from the last five decades! You can visit from early afternoon to have lunch with friends with the cosy, laidback soundtrack to match, or ramp it up in the evenings with a loud, rocking and busy bar where you can let your hair down and take in all the incredible Rock N Roll artwork and the dedicated Rhum Room.

The most important aspect of any MOJO bar is of course the music, it's clean and dirty at the same time just like that long forgotten blues riff. It's intimate and personable at all times and is never more than a couple of paces away with the very best drinks - and music, always music!

I loved the whole vibe of MOJOs, from the very moment I walked in I knew it would be the kind of place I loved where the music was as dirty as the food - but the good dirty kind of course! The kind where you get sticky fingers from chomping the chicken wings and messy mouths from the succulent sweetcorn finished in a spice butter. The kind of place where getting down and dirty with friends, not caring how messy you become from enjoying the fabulous food! Sounds like my kind of place!

I can tell you that the food tasted just as good as it look here, with everything being handmade the love really does show through to the food. The fact that they cook their chicken wings three times just goes to show how much they care about ensuring that their food is top notch for their customers. The blue cheese sauce is out of this world, like, worth going to MOJO's just to eat it good! I don't usually like this kind of sauce but OMG! I am so pleased I got to sample it - definitely the best sauce on the menu!

The veggie spicy bean burger with house BBQ sauce, pico de gallo guacamole and jalapenos is really rather good. As a vegetarian it can be hard to find decent burgers which aren't just a tasteless bean burger in a bun with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise! But this one blows all others out of the water and provides that much needed 'mmmm' factor upon first bite!

The tayto tots with umami sauce are a really tasty side. A cross between a croquette and mashed potato the soft inside, which is delicately encased in a deep fried outside of breadcrumbs, remind me of childhood. I absolutely loved them and can't wait to have another helping!

I couldn't get dirty with the chicken wings so instead I tackled the corn on the cob and believe me when I say the only way to eat them is by picking them up and eating them like the primeval caveman you are!! Don't worry about getting messy, as MOJO kindly provide wet wipes to alleviate mess! The spiced butter is a happy accompaniment, because you can't not have butter with corn on the cob!

OK, we need to talk about the goat's cheese, baked with maple syrup & pecans, served with toasted brioche. I just, this is next level indulgence; who doesn't love baked cheese ay?! Especially when it's served with brioche bread to dip into it.....cue heart eye emojis! It is worth going to MOJO just for this alone, oh and the blue cheese sauce of course.....I'm sensing a theme here, but come on, it's CHEESE!!

The quesadilla was so so good, with black beans, sweetcorn and cheese, pico de gallo, in a griddled flat tortilla with tequila and lime sour cream. They are the perfect way to start off your meal as they are light enough to not be filling, but tasty enough to offer everything you could need if you're after just a light lunch in between meetings or a quick catch up with the girls.

Speaking of catching up with friends, what better way than over some cocktails? We were lucky enough to be spoilt with drinks whilst dining and let me tell you they were devilishly good!

Bahama Mama: Appleton signature Blend Rum shaken with coconut cream, grenadine, lime and pineapple juices.

Rhubarb, Rhubarb: Absolut Vodka, Beefeater London Dry Gin and Giffard Rhubarb Liqeur, served tall with lemon juice and a home made rhubarb puree.

Pornstar Martini: Absolut Vanilla, Passoa, passionfruit and sugar served with a shot of Prosecco.

Perfect for sipping in the sunshine that we're currently being blessed with. All cocktails are shaken by an expert bartender who really knows his stuff when it comes to recommending the perfect cocktail for you. My favourite was by far and away the Rhubarb Rhubarb, I just loved the taste and the addition of the fresh rhubarb was genius.

Lastly, I couldn't not mention the divine Rum and Ginger brownie we sampled...oh my days this was so good! Made with rum which has been aged for 5 years, this delicious brownie, served warm with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce will send into a divine and glorious food coma. You have to try this. 10/10!

So there you have it, a full round up of MOJO's in Harrogate! I hope you enjoyed reading this and I haven't made you too hungry (sorry not sorry!). I highly suggest you get yourself down to your local MOJO's for the best music, food and staff in town!

Love, Sarah
