Pernation Review * | The Original Green Lipped Mussel Extract Gel | How I Exercise Despite An Old Injury.

Sunday, 8 July 2018

Pernaton is a range of products each with Perna - taken from New Zealand Green Lipped Mussels (Perna Canaliculus) which is said to help repair and ease aching and tired limbs after exercise or injury. There are capsules available as well as gels which are applied topically to the skin - a bit like the heat gel we're all so familiar with and usually reach for when we feel the all too familiar twinge.

Research has shown that it has greater success rate than any Glucosamine Sulphate or Chondroitin Sulphate - two supplements I have previously taken when I injured my knee/back/hip by falling up the stairs at university. Ever since I have suffered on and off with problems relating to this incident and have never really found anything to help - except that is Pernaton.

Fresh from the coastal waters of New Zealand, the Perna extract is a natural source of unique, regenerative and nourishing substances which serving as a base for the manufacture of the valuable PERNATON products.

Delivering essential nutrients to help joint function within the body, this extract has a functional Glycogen complex, long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, 11 different minerals and 18 vital amino acids. It also contains a high content of Glycosaminoglycans (GAG) - vital for cartilage.

Pernaton is extracted using a unique cold process which (obviously) doesn't use heat, chemicals or solvents, it is then freeze dried to ensure quality and purity before being milled to produce a fine powder extract.

Some lesser quality Green Lipped Mussel powders available today contain mussels which have been steamed/cooked or ground down into a powder using basic processes that essentially destroy all the active ingredients! So you're paying for something which will not do the job it says it will on the packaging!! Sometimes it pays to do a bit of research about just how the products are made before deciding which one to use.

The mussels themselves are farmed to recognised quality standards which are constantly checked and grown in the clean coastal waters of New Zealand which itself has a blue ocean environmental award - these are constantly checked for bacteria, toxins and heavy metals which may lead to the extract being inferior.

I was kindly sent both the Pernaton Gel (cold, with added menthol and essential oils to improve joint mobility) and Pernaton Gel Forte (hot, with cayenne pepper extract and valuable physiologically active essential oils.) as well as a roll on to trial and I have been using them since I have increased my exercise levels at the beginning of June.

Swimming and yoga both take it out of me and sometimes leave me feeling a bit sore afterwards so I have been reaching for the Pernaton Gel to alleviate any swellings or soreness.

For more muscle related aches and pains I have used the Pernaton Gel Forte. Like I said previously, carrying an old injury can sometimes mean my hips or knee plays up and can leave me in slight discomfort - although doing yoga eases this too applying this gel helps me to carry on when usually I would pass on exercise because of being in pain.

I have used many other heat pads and gels to help ease my sore muscles over the years but I have found Pernaton to be incredibly effective. Applying these gels is a pleasant experience as it is non-greasy upon application so you don't feel like you have to immediately wash your hands. Plus the gels themselves sink in quickly leaving you more time to get on and exercise or get dressed.

My Dad has been using the Pernaton Gel almost everyday as he swims and also does walking football. His final assessment is that "....they provide heat relief but I can't say for sure it did any good but it felt as though it may be helping a bit..."

So all in all these gels have helped us both and I for one would definitely re-purchase once they are all finished. We have not yet tried the roll on but I imagine it would be as good as the other two but perfect for slipping into your bag for quick post gym/swim application.
