*AD - Book kindly gifted by Harper Collins for the purposes of this review. All opinions my own.

You followed the trial obsessively you know he's guilty and can't believe he got away with it. But someone is determined to see justice done.

Rain Winter left journalism behind to focus on her baby daughter, but when a man acquitted for murder is killed, in the same way as his suspected victims Rain sees a pattern emerging between a series of cold cases.

Meticulous and untraceable, this killer strikes in the dead of night, making sure that the guilty are suitably punished for their crimes.

As Rain's investigation deepens, she must face up to the dark secrets in her own past and the realisation that the killer may be closer than she thinks....

Truth be told I have only just started this book so can't quite comment on the book as a whole but from the outset I can see that this is going to be one hell of a read.

It starts at the end in a sense, with the murder of Steve Markham - the supposed inconsolable husband who'd just lost his wife and unborn child.

The trial saw him acquitted but everyone knew he was guilty and it was the case Rain was working on before she went on maternity leave.

When it comes back into sharp focus she can't help but want to be back in the newsroom with all her friends, working on the case and proving once and for all that he was indeed, guilty.

But Rain is caught between two worlds, wanting to be at home with her baby daughter milling organic baby food, seeing her mom friends and enjoying life with her husband but also craving the buzz of the newsroom as a big story breaks.

We see that she's been out of that world for so long that when she contacts her old acquaintances, after she first hears of the Markham murder, they are reluctant to speak to her.

Rain feels the pull of her laptop almost as much as the engorging of her breasts; it remains to be seen which one pulls her in the hardest.
