AD The Widow Of Pale Harbour Blog Tour | Hester Fox's Latest Book | Another Release From Harper Collins. | Why I Love To Read For My Mental Health

AD - Book received in exchange for this blog post. All opinions my own.

Blurb:

A town gripped by fear. A woman accused of murder. Who can save Pale Harbour from itself?

Desperate to escape the ghosts of his past, Gabriel Stone takes a position as a minster in the remote Pale Harbour, but not all is as it seems in the sleepy town.

As soon as Gabriel steps foot in town, he can't escape the rumours about the mysterious Sophy Carver: whispers that she killed her husband, mutterings that she might even be a witch.

But as strange unsettling events escalate into murder, Gabriel finds himself falling under Sophy's spell. As clues start to point to Sophy as the next victim, Gabriel realises he must find answers before anyone else turns up dead.

My Review

Like the previous review, I haven't had the time to get stuck into this book before writing this review - I apologise for this but it wasn't sent to me in enough good time !

I've got to chapter three and so far so good, I've met Sophy and Gabriel and am getting to know the characters and find out their stories.

Why I Love To Read

I've previously written about why I love to read and how it's really good for my mental health. How picking up a book can transport me to another world, I can get lost within their words and visualise the world they're setting.

I find when I read that in my mind I almost set the scene just like in a film - when I read Steig Larsson's series of books, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and later watched the films everything I'd imagined in my mind came to fruition in front of me.

Everything from how the characters looked to how I'd imagined the sets came to be and I have to hand it to Steig for writing so well. When authors set the scene so well, it makes it easy for me to imagine how everything might look.

It's like a double win, because not only do I get to enjoy the authors words, but I get to get lost in my imagination which is what makes me love reading so much.

There's nothing better than picking up a book and opening that first page. You never know what's going to happen next, what those first words will be until you do. It's good to have something physical to look at instead of my phone.

To take in a story which the author has put together so well helps my mind to free up and not be so distracted by my phone screen! I have a kindle as well which is good when luggage is restricted, but for me there's nothing quite like picking up an actual book and diving straight in.

To flick through the pages and smell them, to hold something physical, helps to snap my brain out of the perpetual cycle of checking social media every five minutes which does nothing for me except make me feel increasingly bad!

Plus, I love collecting books, the pretty covers making me smile whenever I glance upon my bookshelf. I can't help but be attracted to pretty covers whenever I'm in a bookshop and my TBR pile gets bigger and bigger every time!

Lately I have not had the time to read as much as I'd like to. This is something I need to look at because I absolutely love reading and getting lost in an authors words. I am going to have to take a look at my routine and see where I can make these changes.

It will do wonders for my mental health to put my phone down and look at words on a page of a physical book. To not be so distracted by other people's photos and instead focus on myself and what I want to do.

I have a trip coming up at the end of the month so I shall endeavor to pick up a book instead of my phone!

I'll report back whether this works or not.

Love, Sarah
