York is a great place to visit for a UK day trip or weekend break. There's so much to do and see, such as museums, historic landmarks and amazing shopping quarters.
York also has some incredible places to eat, including amazing vegan-friendly spots. As a vegan, I often worry about finding somewhere suitable to eat when I'm in a new place, especially if I'm out with other people. But when I go to York, I know I've got lots of options!
Whether you're a vegan or you just want to try out a new place, I've put together some of the best vegan-friendly restaurants to visit in York this Summer.
The Best Vegan-Friendly Restaurants to Visit in York
I've previously discussed the best vegan-friendly places in Yorkshire and great vegan spots in Harrogate, but in this post, I want to focus on delicious vegan-friendly restaurants to visit in York.
Not all of these restaurants are completely vegan, but they have lots of vegan options, including savoury dishes and sweet desserts. Some of them even have separate vegan menus - always a plus!
1. Orchard Vegan
Orchard Vegan is a delicious 100% vegan restaurant. I love this, as it means I don't have to think about what I'm ordering - I can just order whatever I want off the menu with no stress at all!

Orchard Vegan is a Chinese restaurant, offering delights like vegan crackers, spring rolls and even vegan calamari. All of their food is so tasty, and I love that I can enjoy Chinese food again without eating meat.
2. Double Dutch Pancake House
If you're looking for a delicious dessert or a savoury pancake, the Double Dutch Pancake House is the place to go! It's a popular choice for students, tourists and locals alike - and you can get a range of toppings, some of them vegan.

They have a separate vegan menu (always a plus) and they serve incredible options, from vegan bacon pancakes to vegan chocolate pancakes.
I loved my trip to the Pancake House and I really recommend checking it out for dessert or breakfast if you're visiting York this Summer.
3. Doner Summer
Doner Summer is a fully-vegan restaurant in York city centre. Just off Gillygate, it's perfect if there are a few vegans in your group - or if you want to treat yourself to some tasty vegan junk food.
I've discussed the joys of vegan junk food in the past - and there's nothing like enjoying dirty vegan food when you're out with friends and family.

Doner Summer specialises in fried "chicken", kebabs and burgers. You can also get great cocktails to go with your food.
There's a gorgeous outdoor area that's perfect if you're looking for a place to eat outside in Summer!
4. Spark: York
Spark: York is a big canteen-style restaurant, serving dishes from a range of traders. You can order anything and everything - from drinks to pizza to burgers to desserts.

There are lots of vegan options at Spark, including a fully-vegan trader called Herbivorous. This vendor specialises in vegan comfort food - but you can order vegan options from lots of other traders too.
Whether you fancy Greek food or pizza, there's something for everyone. I can't wait to try Spark soon!
5. Ambiente Tapas
Ambiente Tapas is a tasty restaurant in the centre of York - and it's super popular with tourists and locals. Tapas is a great choice if you're going out for food, as you can try lots of different dishes in one meal.

Ambiente Tapas serves a range of vegan tapas, such as aubergine fritters and sautéed courgettes. You can also get a separate vegan menu at this York restaurant, making your visit a little easier!
6. Once Across the Garden
Once Across the Garden is a vegan fast food bar in York city centre. From vegan burgers to fried "chicken", you can experience 100% vegan savoury and sweet treats.

There's a range of great vegan burgers to try out, including "bacon cheese" or donner meat. You can also get delicious hot dogs - all of them completely vegan! I can't wait to try out this restaurant on my next trip to York.
7. Middle Feast
Are you mourning kebabs since you turned vegan? Check out Middle Feast! This restaurant specialises in classic shawarma dishes, including a few options for vegetarians and vegans.
Choose from humous and salad or falafel for a bite to eat when you're out and about.

There's no seating as it's a takeaway, but you can sometimes sit outside or find a seat in York city centre to enjoy your food in the sun.
Do you have any vegan-friendly food suggestions in York? Let me know in the comments!
